Rebecca is the boss babe behind the design agency, Creative Nobility. I first met Rebecca at a YYC Pizza Week meeting and have since had the pleasure of getting to know her. Her passion for design palpable and her heart of gold is inspiring. Here's just a piece of her story.

Tell me a little bit about yourself and your work. Where are you from? What do you do?

I’m a Calgary Graphic Designer. I run a boutique design agency where we help businesses of any size with their branding, print materials, social media and websites. We also love working on creative projects such as wedding invitations, greeting cards and currently have a line of t-shirts in the works! I was born in St. Albert but moved to Calgary shortly after and have been here ever since. I couldn’t see myself living anywhere else!

What inspires you to do what you do? How did you start doing this work?

I had always dreamed of having my own business but didn’t think it would be until much later. In 2012, I fell and had a severe concussion. I wasn’t able to work my current job anymore so decided to take the leap, start up my own company and build my client base while my head recovered. It was the best decision I’ve made!

Right now, my main source of inspiration comes from other young entrepreneurs in the design and art industries that work hard everyday to make a living for themselves doing what they love.

What inspires you most about your community (city, group of friends, etc.)?

What inspires me most about my community is that although Calgary is a big city, I still think it has a small town feel. As an entrepreneur, it’s important for you to surround yourself with other like-minded people. I love that I can go into work and see other business owners or call up my friends and collaborate or bounce ideas off of them. I also love the diversity of Calgary. It’s constantly changing and adapting. You never know what restaurants, cafés, or events might pop up next.

If you could give anyone who is starting out in your field (business, non-profit, etc.) one piece of advice, what would it be?

My advice for anyone who wants to start out as a Graphic Designer or start up their own company would be to network like crazy. It’s a bit nerve-wracking at first but it’s important to expand your network and meet as many people as you can. You never know who you might meet and how you could help each other.

Tell me three fun facts about yourself.

  1. I’m allergic to lemons.
  2. I work in an amazing co-working space called Work Nicer.
  3. I have a long haired Chihuahua named Elliot that thinks he’s a cat.
