The other night, I had the opportunity to attend a sneak peek of Calgary’s first hammam.
A hammam is a Turkish bath, similar to a sauna. In Western Europe, this cleansing and relaxation technique became popular in the Victorian Era. The process involves heated marble, ambient steam and a series of full body treatments.

HAMMAM • $158 • 60 MINUTES
The perfect introduction to the hammam. The cleansing ritual begins as you choose your therapeutic oil: rosemary mint, citrus or lavender. The traditional “kese” exfoliation is self administered on a heated stone table with a sea salt scrub. After an invigorating rinse, a massage targeted on the back and shoulders is performed on the heated stone. The Hammam Treatment accelerates blood circulation and leaves skin and body feeling renewed and refreshed.
GRAND HAMMAM • $198 • 90 MINUTES
The energizing hammam experience and our Soma Hammam & Spa signature treatment. The cleansing ritual begins as you choose your therapeutic oil: rosemary mint, citrus or lavender. The traditional “kese” exfoliation is performed on a heated stone table with a foaming wash followed by a detoxifying sea salt scrub. An invigorating hair wash and scalp massage using Kerastase (please link to Angles website) products completes the cleansing ritual. The treatment is finished off with a massage targeted on the back and shoulders. The Soma Grande Hammam Treatment accelerates blood circulation and leaves skin and body feeling renewed and refreshed.
Soma’s newest location also has several massage therapy rooms, facial treatments and a range of other spa treatments. For all services, visit the Soma website.
Enjoy these photos of opening night. Then, book an appointment! Soma Hammam & Spa is located in Seton in the new Marriot hotel.
Thank you to Soma for the sneak peek, By Ollia for the macarons and My Cheesecake Addiction for the mini cheesecakes.
